Mikel Maron is joining the Mapbox team. He will work across the entire organization to build open mapping processes, improve data quality, and help grow the global open geo data community around key projects like OpenStreetMap.
Mikel joins from the US State Department where he has worked as Presidential Innovation Fellow to anchor OpenStreetMap in disaster response and drive OpenStreetMap adoption across federal government agencies. He’s cofounder of the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, and founding member of the OpenStreetMap Foundation.
He has been a hands-on part of the OpenStreetMap community since the early days. He’s helped map slums in Kenya and Tanzania, run mapping workshops all across India, and has the claim to having run the first mapping party at the White House.
Welcome Mikel!
