We just testified before Congress about the need for patent reform to the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the internet. In the hearing, I shared some of Mapbox’s experience with patent trolls and how we have fought them.
Patent trolls, predatory businesses who file meritless lawsuits that are cheaper to settle than to fight, have continued to evolve and refine their tactics even as Congress and the court system have taken steps to make their abusive business model less lucrative.
You can read my full testimony from July 13th below or watch the video of the hearing. If you agree that stopping trolls’ abuse of our patent system is important, please consider donating to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which does important work fighting trolls and helping their victims. Or, even better: contact your representatives in Congress. It was good to join companies like Newegg and Cloudflare who are doing important work pushing back against these trolls.
