They’re hiding everywhere

By: Elijah Zarlin

Yesterday, the Mapbox people team organized an Easter egg hunt in the office, and a bunch of “professionals” giddily ran around for 20 minutes throwing throw pillows and crawling on the floor to find hidden candy. Yes, Easter egg hunts are fun. So what if they were… everywhere?

For the second year in a row, The Great Snapchat Egg Hunt is here to answer that question. Tens of millions of eggs are hiding in plain sight, and all weekend long users can hunt them on Snapchat to compete with friends and family.

When users open the app, they’re greeted with a map filled with decorated Easter eggs and challenged to collect as many as they can. Like PokemonGo, once they’re close to the eggs, the eggs appear in augmented reality on the camera and they tap the egg to collect it. Collect as many as possible over the weekend, and watch your score rise as you compete. Regular eggs are worth one point but golden eggs will get you five points.

Found an egg in our lobby. How did the Snap team get in here?

This year’s map has rare chicks in addition to eggs. If you spot one, you’ll be able to unlock a “Mini-Game Lens,” giving you the opportunity to score even more points.

Last year, Snapchat users collected over 59,692,012 eggs. And, 144,034 people even collected more than 100 eggs in just one day. We’re loving watching how excited people are for this competition to come back:

How many eggs will people collect this year? Get out there and start hunting, it’s fun!
