Andy Lee just joined Mapbox to lead our APAC expansion, and his initial focus will be building the team and our operations in China. Andy joins us from Uber where he led business development and corporate development efforts in China and Asia Pacific for the last 3 years.
In his time at Uber, Andy struck a groundbreaking consumer credit card partnership with China Citic Bank, raised hundreds of millions of dollars for Uber China from Guangzhou Automotive and HNA Group, and brought in over $100m in external cost-savings. Prior to Uber, Andy led international expansion for companies including San Francisco-based game maker Kabam and led digital operations and business development at NBA China and News Corporation in China and across Asia Pacific.
From our first conversation it was clear Andy understood location in the local market. He has exactly the type of disruptive background and forward-looking perspective in the space that we need. Andy has lived and worked in China for over 17 years and has led numerous groundbreaking and transformative digital partnerships and mobile product launches for Uber, Kabam, NBA China, and News Corporation — during an era where live streaming, internet video, mobile gaming, and ride sharing came of age. As he comes onboard, he will focus on developing and executing on a strategic plan for our operations in China and the Asia Pacific region and accelerating our efforts to build a world-class team in China.
“I am incredibly honored and excited to join this extremely talented global team and to be charged with building and expanding our China and Asia Pacific business. It was clear when I met Eric that Mapbox is on an amazing growth trajectory and helping developers build the next generation of geospatial and location-based tools and platform to power the next era of mobility. I am also impressed with Mapbox’s commitment to a diverse but inclusive culture, and I am committed to carrying this forward across the region.” — Andy Lee
Andy joins a truly amazing team of senior leaders in Xinnong Yang and Karen Zhang who have enabled us to build a business in cooperation with local partners in one of the most challenging business environments. Xinnong’s expertise in partnerships and the location industry in China is what enabled us to break through, and he is crucial to our ongoing success in-country. Xinnong will work alongside both Andy and me as Director of Partnerships & Strategy, China while Karen — a master of telling our story and managing key relationships — will lead our marketing efforts as Director of Marketing, China.
Welcome aboard Andy, we’re excited to see how you grow and lead this team!
