Thousands of geographers are heading to San Francisco next week for the Association of American Geographers' Annual Meeting (AAG), one of the largest geography researcher gatherings in the world.

This year, we’re excited to be a part of the AAG Mapathon, a series of mapping events introducing OpenStreetMap, and new methods for working with geographic data and open source tools. Panel sessions and mapathons will cover topics ranging from disaster preparedness and resiliency to health and infectious disease.

Open mapping has a lot to share with education: easily accessible tools and data, opportunities to contribute to immediate data needs, and a vibrant research network. Mapbox is committed to supporting education, and we can’t wait to connect with academic and research communities at AAG! Look for Eric, Lyzi, Charlie, Xiaowei and myself to talk open mapping and growing community.

If you’re not attending AAG, but want to raise a glass to the mappers, join us at 5:30 PM on Thursday, March 31st for the AAG happy hour.
