Soon you’ll be able to highlight the road features most relevant to your map style with the new Mapbox Streets v7. We’ve expanded our road classifications, for more flexible styling and so you can dive deeper into the details of a particular class. But don’t worry if you’re working on a simpler or more general map design - the extra details won’t get in your way if you don’t need them!

Here’s a taste of some of the fresh new features.

New road classifications

Construction types

Mapbox Streets v7 gives you more options for styling roads that are under construction. These roads have been broken out into their own class for simpler styling as a whole, and have also been enhanced with more specific road classification details for situations where you need it. Within the construction class, there are 16 optional type values ranging from construction:motorway_link to construction:residential.

Better ski maps

We’ve also enhanced our aerialway class to include all types of aerialways and help differentiate between the most common ones. You can now style cable cars, gondolas, chair lifts, drag lifts, and more individually for enhanced ski resort maps. Take a look at added data coverage on the Swiss ski map style.

Track grades

Tracks now live in their own class and include additional grading information as captured by the OpenStreetMap tracktype tag. These values help communicate track quality, particularly regarding surface firmness.
