OpenStreetMap and open geo data will be a major topic at the upcoming Open Government Partnership Summit in Mexico City October 27th - 29th. The gathering of 66 signatory countries and civil society committed to accountability, transparency, and open data comes at the heels of the United Nations ratification of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development Data. Open geospatial data is one of the key data priorities within the Global Goals.
Mapping Mexico City with drones and OpenStreetMap for urban planning.
Open data commons like OpenStreetMap fundamentally transform how citizens and governments collaborate around data. There is a real opportunity to make more crucial data available to all, improve data quality, and drastically lower the cost of data maintenance for government.
There are four mapping sessions scheduled:
- OpenStreetMap mapathon
- Geo speed geeking
- The open mapping revolution on the future of collaborative geospatial data sharing in government
- Civic technology panel with OpenStreetMap founder Steve Coast
There will also be an open mapping happy hour. We’re aiming for Wednesday Oct 28 after the program – details to be announced.
If you’ll be at the Summit, or are in Mexico City and love mapping, reach out! And we’ll see you at the Summit, at the mapathon, or at the happy hour.
