We are proud to support App Camp For Girls, a non-profit that organizes summer day camps for girls entering eighth and ninth grades, teaching them how to build iOS apps in an environment filled with professional women as role models. We’ve donated to App Camp’s current fundraising drive to help them grow into their next stage of operations.
App Camp teaches girls about app design and development, safety online, and following your passions. Girls go from perhaps having no technical experience to making a “pitch session” at the end of the week to a panel of women entrepreneurs from the community, showing off their app concept and execution. Most importantly, App Camp provides this opportunity at the critical age where many girls make the decision that STEM fields aren’t cool or aren’t for them. App Camp is connecting girls with peers who share their curiosity about science and technology.
Mapbox has sponsored a team at Portland’s camp this year, plus is helping the organization to grow beyond its current efforts in Seattle and Vancouver, into a worldwide phenomenon. Check out what App Camp For Girls is up to and consider donating as well!
