Mapbox Streets for GL

Meet the all-new Mapbox Streets: a multi-purpose global basemap designed from the ground up for both mobile and web use in Mapbox GL. Mobile developers will get full access to this updated style when we release the upcoming Mapbox GL for iOS. Until then, here’s a preview:

Boston to Melbourne

We’ve optimized this style for seamless zooming, panning, and rotating on small screens, starting with a bright color palette to make features more eye-catching:

Orange County, California

For text labels, our font family of choice is DIN – a slightly condensed face that helps maximize space on mobile screens:

Northeastern United States

Mapbox Streets strikes a balance between street features and terrain data, with subtle hillshading throughout:

Valparaíso Region, Chile

As well as low-contrast contour lines at high zoom levels:

Koko Crater, Oahu, Hawaii

Roads are some of the most important features in this style. To make them equally useful to drivers and walkers, we’ve created strong visual distinctions between road types, using high-contrast colors for motorways and larger roads:

Raleigh, North Carolina

And a unique line style for paths:

Versailles, France

We’ve included many points of interest, and styled them with distinct markers. These feature completely revamped versions of our Maki icons (launching soon): redrawn to be beautifully crisp on both retina and non-retina screens, resized for optimal legibility and data density, and redesigned to be easily customized to any map style:

Sanchinarro, Madrid

We’re excited to offer this new map style with the soon-to-be-launched Mapbox GL for iOS, making it even easier for developers to quickly integrate maps into their applications. We can’t wait to see what you make with Mapbox Streets!
