Our terrain across Asia has tripled in detail as we continue to improve our data around the globe.

Mount Everest, Nepal/China. Earth’s highest mountain at 8,848m. (SRTM 90m vs. SRTM 30m)

Gunung Gede, West Java, Indonesia. Active stratovolcano last erupted in 1957. (SRTM 90m vs. SRTM 30m)

Baltoro Glacier, Pakistan. One of the longest non-polar glaciers in the world at 63km. (SRTM 90m vs. SRTM 30m)

Mount Fuji, Japan. Active stratovolcano and Japan’s highest peak at 3,776m. (SRTM 90m vs. SRTM 30m)

Khangchendzonga National Park, Sikkim, India. Biosphere reserve home to many endangered species including snow leopard, Asian black bear, and red panda. (SRTM 90m vs. SRTM 30m)

This data comes from the SRTM 30 meter global elevation data, which was just released to the public by NASA, the US Geological Survey, and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency.

This update ranges from the western Himalayas in northern Afghanistan to the Pacific ocean, and from southern Siberia through Indonesia. Previous SRTM 30m updates include Africa and South America. Still more to come.
