Spain’s Ministry of Transport and El Diario mapped the municipalities moving similarly to pre-COVID — a proxy for economic activity and an indicator of where social distancing is being observed. The data show how mobility in Spain rose just after the return of Easter:
As the world awaits widespread testing and, eventually, a vaccine, it will be increasingly critical to target stay-at-home orders as narrowly as possible to limit economic fallout. And as commerce resumes, knowing which areas are recovering more slowly will help governments target stimulus funding.
