New features in version 2.1.0 of the Maps SDK for Unity

By: Jordy Webb

We’ve just released version 2.1.0 of the Maps SDK for Unity. This release features Editor Preview mode, making it easier to review map design changes in Unity as developers edit.

Previously, making edits to the map required developers to enter Play mode in the Unity editor to run the scene and inspect their edits. This interaction required developers to constantly flip between Play mode and Editor to see how each edit impacted the map — increasing development time and making it difficult to make detailed changes to the map.

With Editor Preview, we’re simplifying that process. Developers can now preview the effects of tweaking parameters and see how game elements interact relative to the map — saving valuable development time and improving the quality of game level generation. To access Editor Preview, developers click the new Enable Preview button on the AbstratcMap.cs script and it displays the map with all current settings.

Improved line rendering

This release also features improvements to our line mesh generation algorithm, allowing us to create better-looking roads. We added options for line joins and ends to customize the look and quality of line-rendering.

Left: Line joins help reduce artifacts at segments | Right: Improved line rendering at intersections.

Like all Mapbox SDKs and APIs, the Maps SDK for Unity lets you start building with a generous free tier and automatic discounts that kick-in as you scale. To start building, check out the full list of updates in our changelog and update to v2.1.0.
