Leveraging Mapbox alongside your Esri implementation, Part II
By: Anthony Calamito
We recently explained how to bring Esri data into Mapbox. But what if you need to bring Mapbox data into ArcGIS? Users of ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro can all import basemaps and tilesets from Mapbox Studio back into their ArcGIS dashboards.
Mapbox’s focus on open standards enables this easy interoperability to move styles and data in and out of the Mapbox environment, so developers and analysts can use whichever tools they need to succeed in their missions.
Bring Mapbox basemaps into ArcGIS:
Using tile layers, users can bring their favorite basemaps and designer styles to ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS.
Bring Mapbox tilesets into ArcGIS:
In addition to Mapbox base maps, analysts can add tilesets to ArcGIS, such as Mapbox Boundaries, Mapbox Traffic Data, or their own content published through Studio. To access the WMTS endpoint of a tileset in Studio, navigate to Share > Third Party > WMTS. Once the URL is handy, it can be added to ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS by following this documentation.
Mapbox also works for ArcGIS desktop products
Mapbox integrations aren’t limited to the web, so ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro users can benefit from them as well. The process to add a Mapbox style as a WMTS layer to ArcGIS Desktop is outlined in our documentation here, and while we don’t have the same documentation for ArcGIS Pro yet, the process is nearly identical.
