R-bies lets runners relive their performance every step of the way
R-bies is a leading pioneer of the Japanese running industry, with more than 40 years of building services to enhance the running community, and the experience of runners and race organizers in Japan. What does that look like in 2018?
R-Bies combined the race record (which includes race markers, split time, lap time and date time) with GPS path data describing the course. Using node.js, they were able to display the runners course in a vivid birds-eye view of the 168 km 2018 Ultra Trail Mt. Fuji run.
They created custom .finisher videos for every racer, allowing participants to see an actual playback of their race with time, place, pace and performance to target the whole way. The rich visualization incorporates additional details for an even more engaging experience — moving between zoom levels and video direction as the race progresses, and incorporating different lighting as time of day shifts from daytime to sunset to night (with headlamp beam) to sunrise. The video also embeds custom markers and photos of the event, to remind you just where you were.
That’s not the only way R-bies is using maps to keep their community engaged in staying fit. They’ve also recently announced a new couples running app “run&,” which uses our Mobile SDKs to let partners track each other’s run and pace. So even if you can’t physically be there, you can share, engage and encourage one another to get out and go for a run.
If you’re running in Japan, check out R-bies apps using Mapbox SDKs including run&, Ouen navi, and FUN RUNNET. And if you’d like to build your own running experiences, explore our developer tools to get started.
