We’re excited to announce we are adding 105 million places to the map this year using the freshest place data from one of our earliest partners: Foursquare. From restaurants and bars to shops, museums, and hotels — the places on our map are about to be updated and made available via search.
13 billion first-party check-ins
Foursquare’s data comes from over 13 billion first-party check-ins, combining machine learning models and first-party data from their consumer apps. The Foursquare database includes over 105 million points of interest and contains valuable venue information, from addresses and opening hours to ratings and need-to-know tips.
What this means for you
Integrating Foursquare as our primary POI data provider — along with our hundreds of other address and place data sources — increases the depth, coverage, quality, and freshness of the data available through our Maps and Search features.
- Depth: More points of interest for social, travel, and landmarks
- Coverage: Better regional coverage providing improved coverage globally
- Quality: Improved data for a richer user experience
- Freshness: More frequent data updates ensure relevant, accurate results that reflect the world around you
We’ve worked with our friends at Foursquare for years — in fact, Foursquare was the very first user of our global map back in 2012. It is exciting to deepen this relationship and have Foursquare’s data, which we use so often, now as part of our maps.
