Ring, recently acquired by Amazon, has come a long way from their 2013 appearance on Shark Tank pitching Doorbot, a WiFi-enabled doorbell. They’ve grown to offer all kinds of IoT security products including indoor and outdoor cameras, a Floodlight cam, outdoor WiFi enabled lighting, and a professionally monitored security system.
With their mobile apps for iOS and Android, Ring is expanding beyond the home, using maps and location data from their network of devices to make entire neighborhoods safer.
With our Maps SDKs for Mobile, they’ve created a custom interface for users to share real-time crime and safety updates with neighbors, including videos, photos, and text-based posts. Users set a “Neighborhood radius” and receive real-time alerts for that area, all contextualized on the map, allowing them see where it happened immediately.
Congrats to Ring on their recent acquisition! We’re excited to see what’s next from them with maps and IoT. Learn more about our tools for fast, custom maps on mobile or reach out to our team with any questions.
