Eight days of driving through a desert with nothing but a paper map, a compass, and your wits to guide the way may sound like a nightmare to some, but to the women participating in the Rebelle Rally it’s the ultimate thrill. The Rebelle Rally is a women’s endurance rally where competitors spend 8 days driving and navigating public dirt roads, double tracks, and sand dunes across Nevada and Southern California using only traditional navigation skills and tools like compasses, paper maps, and plotters. The race begins tomorrow when teams leave from the base of the Squaw Valley Ski resort and begin their journey across the desert.
This year, we’re partnering with the Rebelle Rally team to provide real-time maps for fans to follow the progress of their team across the 2,000 kilometer course. As the Rebelles reach each of the 100 strategically placed checkpoints, you’ll be able to see their progress thanks to the Yellow Brick GPS Tracking devices installed on their vehicles. We’re reading that GPS data in real-time and displaying each vehicle on the map.
Want to see what this will look like? Take a look at a sneak preview of the map we made exclusively for Rebelle.
While the Rebelles competitors are cut off from technology and physically plotting latitude and longitude coordinates, you can follow their daily journey via our map. You’ll not only be able to follow their progress on the map, but also see and learn more about the area, points of interest, and terrain information. The map uses our satellite imagery and includes 3D landscape flyovers rendered in GL, making competition updates from the course come to life.
To follow the rally, log on to www.rebellerally.com tomorrow, October 13th, at 11 am PDT when tracking goes live.
